In May, the historic city of Litomyšl once again became a meeting point for poultry industry professionals, bringing together broiler farmers, technical specialists, and industry experts for the annual seminar organised by MACH DRŮBEŽ in cooperation with Cobb Germany. The event attracted participants from across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as MACH customers from Romania.
The seminar featured presentations from Richard Mach, James Truscott, Dr. Ron Meijerhof, Dr. Stefan Müller-Molenar, Saeid Najati, and Lubor Skalka, who shared their expertise on current industry challenges and future developments in broiler production.
A key focus of the programme was the increasing importance of animal welfare and sustainable production practices. Presentations covered critical topics including house microclimate optimisation, litter quality management, disease prevention, and the technical support available to broiler farmers through MACH DRŮBEŽ and Cobb Germany. Particular attention was given to Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza, which continue to pose significant risks to poultry production worldwide.
With rising costs for energy, labour, and feed, improving production efficiency remains a priority for broiler producers. One presentation highlighted the growing use of whole-wheat supplementation in Germany and explored its potential benefits for both economic performance and flock management.
The seminar also showcased innovative products developed in the Czech Republic that have the potential to reduce antibiotic usage, supporting the industry’s commitment to responsible and sustainable poultry production.
Two presentations focused on the continued genetic progress of the Cobb 500 broiler. Modern breeding programmes are no longer centred solely on growth rate and feed conversion. Today’s genetic advancements place equal emphasis on bird welfare, health, immunity, robustness, and livability. These improvements enable producers to achieve outstanding performance while supporting higher standards of animal well-being.
Beyond the technical programme, the seminar provided valuable opportunities for networking and the exchange of practical experiences among poultry producers. Informal discussions between farmers, technical specialists, and industry partners remain an important aspect of such events, helping to strengthen collaboration and support the continued development of the poultry sector.
The successful seminar once again demonstrated the importance of knowledge sharing and innovation in meeting the challenges facing modern broiler production.
